I’m a small, dedicated preservation breeder of Biewer Terriers, nestled on the breathtaking Monterey Peninsula. My journey with this incredible breed began several years ago when I set out to find a Yorkie. I've always been captivated by parti-colored dogs, the Yorkie’s compact size, and that signature silky drop coat. It wasn’t long before the Biewer Terrier, with its delightful personality, won me over.
In my experience, Biewers tend to have a slightly softer temperament compared to their Yorkshire Terrier relatives, yet they still carry that unmistakable terrier spirit. It was this perfect balance of sweetness and spunk that inspired me to name my kennel "Sugar & Spice." It's a tribute to the unique, lively nature of the breed—charming, with just the right touch of mischief.
When my foundation bitch joined my family, the Biewer Terrier had yet to be fully recognized by the AKC. But that didn’t stop me—I began exploring conformation competitions through the Foundation Stock Service. It wasn’t long before I was completely captivated by the world of dog showing.
All of my dams live in my home as beloved family members, and before they are ever included in my breeding program, they undergo extensive health testing. They also earn their AKC Championship (CH) title in the conformation ring, ensuring they meet the highest standards.
I believe every dog is unique, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to training or competition. Some of my dogs have earned their Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title, a true testament to their excellent temperament. Others are preparing for their CGC test in the near future. AKC’s introduction of new titles like Temperament Testing (ATT) and Farm Dog Certification (FDC) offer even more opportunities to assess the same skills in different environments, and I’m excited to see how my dogs continue to shine in these areas.
Beyond conformation, I’ve started dabbling in companion and performance sport competitions with my dogs to discover what they truly enjoy. In 2022, several of my dogs fell in love with Fast CAT, a thrilling 100-yard dash after a lure. In 2025, we’re working on rally and exploring scent work and Barn Hunt, where they get to tap into their natural terrier instincts.
I take great pride in improving the breed through careful, selective pairings. I breed only a few litters each year, always with an eye toward producing the best possible offspring to become future champions in my home. The rest of my puppies are lovingly placed in pet homes, where they’ll be cherished members of their new families. Occasionally, I may consider a show home for one of my puppies, if the right match comes along.
If you're interested in learning more about my upcoming Biewer Terrier litters, feel free to email me. I’d be happy to schedule a time to chat and get to know each other better.
